Food Bayana

penang Oct 01, 2025

If you think a food court is just about grabbing a quick bite and moving on, Food Bayana is here to change your mind. Located in the heart of Bayan Lepas's industrial zone, this food court is surprisingly magical.

It’s a spot that sparks joy, feeds your inner child, and gives you a little pocket of magic in the most unexpected place. Let's dive into what makes this place so special and why you have to stop by if you're in Penang.

Hobbit Garden: A Tiny Dose of Magic in the City

Right at the entrance of Food Bayana, you're greeted by the Hobbit Garden.

You'll notice a cluster of small, round-doored houses nestled under the trees. These aren't toy houses; they're the highlight of the Hobbit Garden.

Everything is small and cosy, making you feel like you've shrunk down into a fairytale world. You'll probably see families snapping photos, kids giggling as they peek into the tiny doors, and couples striking cute poses near the little houses.

What makes it feel even more special is the greenery surrounding it. Even though you're near an industrial area, the garden feels like a pocket of calm.

You can walk around, snap a few shots, and let the charm of this fantasy world work its magic. What I love most is how unexpected it feels. You're walking into a food court, and then you're in a fairy tale.

Whether you're snapping pictures with the cute hobbit houses or wandering through and soaking in the charm, this little garden brings a fun, childlike wonder that instantly makes you slow down.

Parents love it. Kids go wild for it. And if you're someone who loves unique backdrops for your photos, this one's a winner.

Enoki Garden: Where Mushrooms and Imagination Grow

Step a little further and you'll find the Enoki Garden. It offers a completely different vibe. The Hobbit Garden feels like a fantasy village, whereas the Enoki Garden is more dreamy and surreal, where you've wandered into a mushroom forest from a children's book.

It's a space filled with oversized mushrooms and whimsical forest vibes that make you want to take a break before or after your meal, enjoying a breeze, and soaking in the surroundings.

Whether you're here to unwind or snap cute pics under the mushroom canopies, this garden is all about feel-good energy. Families gather for lighthearted moments and laughter. Creatives and content creators find the perfect aesthetic background for their shots.

Solo travellers like me? I find it the perfect backdrop for a break in between meals.

If the Hobbit Garden is where the adventure begins, then the Enoki Garden is where you kick back and enjoy the moment.

What's Inside Food Bayana?

While the gardens are the highlight visually, let's not forget you came here hungry, too. Inside, you'll find over 30 stalls offering a mix of Malaysian, Japanese, and Western cuisines, and even trendy cafes like 65c Ondo Bakery. But what makes the experience so unique is the semi-automated service. Food Bayana is Malaysia's first semi-automated food court, where you order your food via QR code, and a robot delivers your food to a smart locker, and then you pick it up when it's ready. You could be enjoying your time in the Enoki Garden, and within minutes, your lunch is ready for pickup with zero queues. It's fun, efficient, and makes the whole experience feel like something from the future.

After grabbing your food, you can either dine on the first floor or head up to the second floor, where there's a more spacious seating area. The seating area is clean and separated into halal and non-halal sections, so everyone feels welcome. And if you're lucky, you'll get a seat near the gardens for that perfect combo of good food and great views.

Food Bayana proves that even a simple lunch stop can turn into something a little magical. Between the tech-savvy dining experience and the storybook gardens, it's the kind of place that reminds you to slow down, look around, and appreciate the little joys. Whether you're a local looking for a hangout spot or a traveller hunting for hidden gems, Food Bayana is worth checking out. They're fun and unique to Penang.

Honestly, I didn't expect a place like this to exist in an industrial zone. But that's what makes it so special. Food Bayana blends technology with creativity, nature with novelty. If you're planning your Penang itinerary or even passing through Bayan Lepas, add this to your list. Come for the food, stay for the fantasy.
